Chicken and Dumplings

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but the slightest change in weather makes me go into fall mode. Meaning pumpkins goes up and sweaters come out the closet lol. And when it comes to food, oh best believe I’m whipping up warm and cozy dishes. The dangerous thing with comfort food is it puts you in a deep food coma so brace your self when you go back for seconds.

I love to make chicken and dumplings when the season changes because it just makes you feel all good inside when you eat it lol. From the veggies, to the chicken, to the dumplings..mm mm good. And the best part is this recipe is it’s so quick and easy! Just dump everything in the pot and let it simmer until the goodness is ready to eat. Hope you enjoy!

Lemon Orzo Pasta

Sometimes grocery stores carry a limited stock of orzo pasta noodles which is inconvenient  when you’re trying to plan it for your upcoming meal. The last time I went to the store I bought a pretty large container of it lol…whichhhh I regret now (lesson learned). So I found myself in the position of trying to get rid of it and started looking up different recipes. I couldn’t find anything that caught my eye so I got bold and made up my own. Which to my surprise, turned out very well!!

Tip: Before you the squeeze lemon juice for the last step make sure you taste the dish first. And then squeeze a little juice, stir, taste. Then add more juice if needed. I personally like it very lemony so I used a whole lemon’s worth of juice.  Hope you enjoy and let me know how it turns out!

Ranch Seasoned Chicken Thighs

I love quick recipes and this is one of those! It’s a great idea to have pre-made seasonings in the cabinet you can use to sprinkle on poultry and seafood dishes. I found this recipe on Pinterest and I love to use it on my chicken thighs. I usually double up the ingredients and keep the extra seasoning stored in the pantry for when I need to prepare a quick last minute meal. I’ve only tried it on my chicken, but I’m sure it’ll taste yummy on roasted potatoes or sauted skkrimps. Hope you enjoy and let me know how you like it! 🙂

Turkey/Pork Meatballs + Zoodles

I had this recipe saved on my Pinterest board for a long time and never felt like making it for some reason. After I had the kid I knew I needed to cut back on my carb intake so I finally gave in to trying this recipe out since it was healthy. Annnd it was delicious! I added a couple tweaks to better suit us and now this is apart of our frequently rotated meals. The mixture of pork and turkey is great since the pork helps add juice to the meatball.

If you’ve never made zoodles before, you should know that zucchini contains alot of water inside. After I use my sprializer I like to place the zoodles on paper towels to drain off the water. But honestly it’s allllott of water. I’ve sprinkled salt on it before and used more paper towels but it still doesn’t dry out all the way. After a couple minutes I just say efff it and throw it in the skillet lol. Since zoodles don’t absorb sauce as well as normal pasta you don’t need to cook them for very long in the skillet. Also, be mindful that if you have leftovers the longer they sit in the fridge in the sauce they’ll become more soft and mushy. So I suggest finishing your leftovers within two days. I’ve linked my sprializer below and I absolutely love it! Good luck with this recipe and I hope you enjoy it!

How to design a baby nursery

Do’s

  • Utilize those search engines! Pinterest and Etsy were my best friends! Think about what color scheme and theme you like and attack that search engine.
    • I searched ‘navy and gray baby boy room, baby bear room, gray wildlife baby room’ and that helped me put together my vision. I’m a planner so I ordered all of my décor pieces from Etsy when I was 7 months pregg. My goal was to use things that weren’t too ‘babyish’ and would look decent until he turns 5.
  • Take everything day by day and use your family and friends to help you paint, decorate, drill holes, whatever it may be.
  • Try to get everything completed before your little one arrives because you’ll be too tired to do anything with a newborn.
  • Have a lamp you can use for feedings during the night. A lamp with multiple light settings will be the best.

Dont’s

  • You don’t want to crowd your nursery with too many things because toys will eventually take over the entire space. 😞
  • Don’t get overwhelmed by annny of the baby prepping
  • Don’t place anything dangerous too low or close to the crib or floor.
  • Don’t place the crib infront of a window. As they grow up they can rip down the curtains and blinds.

I don’t remember when this started but I developed the name Blair Bear and others would call be Mama Bear in college. So once I got pregnant with a boy I knew I wanted to create a theme revolving around bears for my little cub.💚

Wall Décor

Having the right wall décor will improve the entire aesthetic of your nursery!

I knew I wanted artwork in his room so I ordered digital prints from Etsy which I highly recommend! They’ll email you the image in whatever color you need, you print it yourself, and get you a cute frame from Hobby Lobby and boom you’re done!

I got my wall decal from Etsy and the lady let me swap out the moose for another bear and select whatever colors I wanted.

Shelves are a great addition to adding more decorative pieces. I chose mountain shelves from Hobby Lobby since they went with my theme. I can see Trent getting older and trying to knock alllll that stuff off the shelves so I made sure to hot glue everything to the shelf lol. (gotta think ahead sometimes) I wasn’t sure what to put on the second mountain but I eventually came across these adorable wooden bears on Etsy.

Fancy mirrors are another great option for your walls. Just be mindful how low you place them or else you’ll see little finger prints everywhere.

Baby Mobile

To me, a crib isn’t complete without a mobile and babies lovvve to stare at things above them! Some of them can be pretty pricey but they’re sooo cute lol. I ordered my mobile from Etsy and you can even make your own if you’re talented when it comes to sewing things. If you order a handmade mobile online they won’t come with the arm that attaches to the crib. I purchased this one from amazon and it works perfectly!

Lounge Corner

I kept debating on putting a rocking chair or a small sofa chair in his room, but I knew a rocking chair wouldn’t get used as much. I also wanted something that he would use when he gets older so I opted for a mini sofa with a twin bed pull out. Why? might you ask. Well years down the road when his friends or cousins spend the night they can sleep in the sofa bed.…like I said I’m a planner and future thinker lol. My husband and I also took turns sleeping in the bed for the first two months while Trent slept in the crib since we had to feed him throughout the night.

Reading Wall

Reading is what? FUNNDAMENTAL! *in my Ru-Paul voice* You’ll get many books over the years so I highly suggest a book shelf or reading wall. I opted for a wall because I don’t want the kid taking the books out all willy nilly and throwing them everywhere. Amazon has these cute clear shelves that won’t take away from your décor and I plopped art work on top that I purchased from Etsy.

Closet Organization

I know some people place bins and shelves inside the closet to organize things but I didn’t want to take that route. I used month markers to divide the clothes up by the different sizes. The floor of the closet is where I placed alllll of the diaper boxes, wipes, high chair box, and walker box. Maybe once he gets older I’ll put in bins but in the beginning you have so many large boxes and they have to go somewhere. I placed the rest of his clothes inside his dresser drawers and I’ve linked my How to make a baby changing station blog post here.

How to make a baby changing station

Out of everything in your baby’s room you will spend the most time at your changing table. So it’s important for that to be a one stop shop while you’re baby is screaming their head off or shooting rainbows of pee all over the place.

Find the right type of dresser

To me a dresser is the way to go so the kid can use it throughout his life as he gets older. Actual changing tables are cute, buutttt they’re pretty small and can get pricey.  I ordered a kids dresser from Rooms To Go that had these awesome cut out shelves on the top! You don’t need very many drawers because lets be honest, how much clothes will they have? Also remember, their items are miniature which can easily be folded and rolled for more room. Messes will occur so I don’t suggest something that can get stained or scratched up easily.

What you need on top

A water resistant changing pad is the way to go! Yes there’s so many cute changing pad covers/sheets but don’t do it!!! Your child will s*** and pee like there’s no tomorrow and that cute stuff will look like boo-boo…literally. I’ve linked my pad below and love the high sides to help keep the kid in one spot. I also keep paper pads nearby for when he blows out his diaper and has poop all on his back and onesie. The diaper organizer I found was small enough for my dresser and perfect for everything I need on hand.

What you need in the drawers

If you don’t have open shelves like my dresser, I suggest storing extra diapers and wipes inside your drawers. If you have a boy, you’ll save money on wipes because you really don’t need to wipe their wee-wee when they pee pee lol (childish, I know). We also rip our wipes in half if we don’t have to clean up a big mess.

Bibs, bibs, bibs, and more bibs! Babies have an excessive amount of drool and spit up like it’s nobody business. That’s why I took up a whole drawer for our bibs and burb cloths.

I ordered these nifty organizers below for all of his clothes and they’re absolutely perfect! If you have grandparents helping you watch your kid it’s best to label all the drawers to make it easier for them. Orrr if the Dad is watching him…they def need all the help they can get lol. So make labels your best friend! I separated my clothing by their different stages, so 0-3 months, 3-6 months..and so on. Once they out grow a drawer empty it out and move the next stage drawer in it’s place.

How to dispose diapers

I was trying to be cautious on money and convince myself that we can use a regular trashcan for dirty diapers. But nope! Silly me. You defff need a diaper trash can cause when those poop diapers pile up…whewww chile, that’s a smell you can’t mask lol. His grandpa was gracious enough to gift us with this diaper genie linked below and I have no complaints with it at all. Of course when you open it, the smell will burn off your noise hairs lol but when it’s closed the smell doesn’t escape from it.

I wish you the best with your bundle of joy and I hope you have fun putting together your diaper station…aka new best friend lol. 💚💚

Blueberry Muffins

Blueberry muffins are one of those things that seem so basic but they’re sooo good. Everytime I say blueberry I think of this old video bahaha.

I love this recipe because it’s simple and it has the right amount of sweetness! And the fresh blueberries just pop with each bite you take. Hope you enjoy them as much as my family does!

Blackened Salmon

I’ve tried a few ways to cook salmon, but this seems to be the only way my husband wants me to do it. Since he likes it so much, I always double up on the seasoning and keep the extra stored in the pantry for next time. Salmon is pretty pricey so I usually buy the frozen Atlantic Salmon and I promise you can barely tell the difference from fresh salmon. Since salmon is a delicate fish it’s important to have plenty of olive oil in the skillet and to let the fish sear for a couple minutes before you flip it. If you flip it too soon it’ll break apart and be one ugly mess. I hope you enjoy this yummy recipe and  that your salmon turns out perfectly!

Cajun Sausage Pasta

I don’t cook pasta often since it goes straight to my wittle muffin top lol. But when I doooo, this is my goto pasta. It’s cheesy, a little spisayyy, and just mm mm good. Sometimes I like to spruce it up and shrimp to it, but I’m sure it’ll also be yummy with diced chicken. All you need is a bowl of this and piece of Texas toast and you’re good to go. Next stop, nap-ville. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! 💚

Banana Bread Muffins

🍌BANANA 🍌 *in my minion voice* If you have nanners that are starting to turn old and mushy DO NOT throw them away. They are perfect to use in baking recipes and smoothies! Even if you don’t have time or the ingredients on hand to make something with them, pop those bad boys in the freezer until you’re ready to use them. That’s what I usually do unless my husband is on a banana splurge and eats them all up before they turn bad.

One of my fave things to make with old nanners is these banana bread muffins. Travon was pretty skeptical about it but he’s now a huge supporter of this movement. 😂

It has the perfect blend of cinnamon, banana, sweetness, and adding walnuts to the mix makes it so much better! Hope you have fun making these warm yummy  muffins. 💚
